Fire Preparedness at Green Bay Bible Camp
A wildfire being reported this morning (Monday, July 12th) in some news stories as being in the "Kelowna Area" is NOT currently affecting Green Bay Bible Camp in any way. In fact, the fire is located closer to Peachland than West Kelowna.
Green Bay Bible Camp has an active fire emergency plan in place which includes buses for evacuation, alternate shelter for campers and staff, notification of camper and staff parents. Should an emergency arise we will take appropriate steps in cooperation with local authorities to keep our campers and staff out of harm's way. One of our local partner churches is Red Cross certified for emergency purposes.

Beat the HST!
This year BC is joining several other provinces in doing away with the GST and PST tax system and moving to a Harmonized Sales Tax (HST). This affects you because your camp fee is subject to tax **. Currently you pay 5% GST but this will change to 12% HST. Full implementation date for the HST is July 1, 2010 with a transition date of May 1, 2010 for services provided after July 1, 2010.
- Tax on a service provided after July 1, 2010 will only be subject to 5% GST if full and complete payment is received before the end of April 2010. This applies to almost all our 2010 summer camps as they take place after July 1, 2010 (tax on Explorers camp will be pro-rated between GST/HST since it straddles the implementation date).
- Any camp fees paid on or after May 1, 2010 (regardless of registration date) will be taxed at 12% **. This 12% tax will be applicable on your entire fee even if a deposit has been received in advance.
- "Consideration due or paid on or after May 1, 2010 and before July 2010
The HST would generally apply to consideration that becomes due, or is paid without having become due, on or after May 1, 2010 and before July 2010 for a supply of a service to the extent that the consideration is for the part of the service that is performed on or after July 1, 2010."
So if you haven't yet decided whether to attend or not, don't delay any further, and save yourself some tax on your child or family's summer vacation! Click here to register now!
(originally posted April 8, 2010 - updated April 26, 2010) ** Note: Day camps for children are not subject to tax.

Camp Fees and Taxes
The new Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) is expected to take effect in BC on July 1, 2010. Currently our campers pay 5% GST on top of their camp fee. When HST is fully implemented that tax will amount to 12%. The BC government is beginning to release information on how the transition from the traditional GST/PST system to HST will work. We are closely monitoring that information to determine just how our 2010 camping season will be affected.
The most important question to be answered is whether an organization that collects money in advance for a service provided after July 1st must collect the full 12% or not. All our camps except one take place after the HST implementation date of July 1st. The best information we have now indicates that if a camper pays his entire camp fee prior to May 1st, he can "beat the HST" and will only be taxed 5%. But this requires confirmation. After May 1st there will be no way to avoid the HST on payment for services which are provided after July 1, 2010.
The 2010 camp rates we are posting now are excluding tax. By the time registration for 2010 camps begin in January we will know more, and hope to be able to advise you if there is any way to "beat the HST".
For further information on the HST click here.
